NAME: Britney Jean Spears (or Mrs Alexander?)

AGE: 22

NATIONALITY: American

CLAIM TO FAME: A marriage just for the heck of it!

BRITNEY Spears commit her biggest ‘Oops’ last weekend. And she regretted it in no time.

Wearing a baseball cap rather than a veil, on the arm of a hotel bellman rather than her father, Britney Spears walked down the aisle of the Little White Wedding Chapel on Las Vegas Strip to exchange the vows with her childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander, on Saturday last, January 3. And just hours after they had tied the knot, when people were just trying to digest the news, it was announced that the pop star has filed for an annulment!

Both the bride and the groom are 22, residents of Kentwood, Louisiana, both were born in Mississippi and have never been married before. He is said to be her childhood friend who was once voted as the most good looking guy in school and who had hoped to make it as a pro-football player. “Mr Britney Spears”, Jason, had his weekend of fame. But as soon as the diva changed her mind, he had to fly solo back to rural Kentwood where he lives with one of his parents.

Friends said Spears and Alexander were partying in the Ghost Bar at the Palms Resort when they came up with the outrageous prank. “They were daring each other to do it,” a friend said. About 3am, they took a limo to the Little White Wedding Chapel, but were told they had to go first to the county courthouse to get a marriage license. Two hours later, they were back, ready to pledge eternal love — or at least say “I do” with the limo driver serving as a witness.

But the ink had hardly dried on the marriage license when Spears’ representatives rushed in to undo the damage. They insisted the wedding was a farce, and would be promptly annulled. “It was a joke that went too far,” a publicist said in a statement. “Ms Spears and Mr Alexander have filed for an annulment.”

The wedding is probably the latest stunt pulled by the once-so-sweet teen princess of pop who has of late turned into a dare-n-bare-all diva. She released her latest album, In the Zone, in November, storming to number one on the music charts with the aide of a publicity blitzkrieg. It was the singer’s fourth consecutive No. 1 debut, but the album’s first-week sales fell short of her previous efforts. To promote the album, Spears has posed topless, appeared in several television interviews and caused a major stir with her open-mouthed kiss with Madonna, on stage, during the MTV Video Music Awards. This is probably another of Britney’s attempts at grabbing the headlines.
