KARACHI, June 27 A sessions court sentenced a man to seven years in prison for raping a minor girl in 2004.

The court found Rafiq Ahmed guilty of sexually assaulting the five-year-old girl in the jurisdiction of the New Karachi police station in April 2004.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (central) Ameena Nazeer Ansari pronounced her judgment after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs25,000 on the convict and in case of default he would have to undergo an additional three-month imprisonment.

The judgment said that the prosecution has successfully established its case against the accused by producing ample evidence in court. The prosecution witnesses had deposed against the accused in the case and the medical reports also corroborated with their evidence, it added.

According to the prosecution, the accused had brought the five-year-old daughter of his neighbour to his home on April 21, 2004 and subjected her to rape. The neighbours shifted her to hospital and handed over the accused to police, it added.
