LAHORE, May 6: Senator Rehman Malik of the PPP presented the media on Monday documentary ‘proof’ of the alleged money laundering by the Sharif brothers and said he had requested the Supreme Court to look into the matter.

“There have been 40 or so scams, including the money laundering and corruption committed by the Sharif brothers. I have written to the SC registrar for investigation into the billions of rupees of corruption as there is also a confessional statement of (PML-N leader) Ishaq Dar in this regard,” the former interior minister said at a press conference.

The PML-N’s Senator Pervaiz Rashid rejected the claim and said it was a propaganda against the PML-N leadership.

Mr Malik said the chief justice should take notice of the money laundering of the Sharif brothers to the UK and Saudi Arabia. He said the PPP might move the international court in this regard. He said the Sharifs should go to the apex court against him if they were innocent. “If I fail to prove the charges against them (Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif) I will quit politics,” he said.

He criticised the Election Commission (ECP) order for stopping an electronic media ad about a conversation between retired Justice Abdul Qayyum and Saifur Rehman. “When it comes to the PPP, the ECP does not play its impartial role,” he said, adding that when the Sharifs learnt that he (Malik) was bringing more video tapes against them they used their influence to stop them.

Accompanied by Faiza Malik and Omar Sharif Bokhari, Mr Malik said Ishaq Dar in his confessional statement in 2000 had revealed that he had laundered billions of rupees abroad on the orders of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif.

He also provided details of fake accounts through which the Sharif brothers had laundered the money and the names of other people involved in the scam. He said the Sharifs should apologise to the nation for their ‘bad deeds’.

Rehman Malik said he had investigated the scams and if they had the courage they should prove him wrong in the court. “The Sharifs are threatening that after coming to power they will arrest me. But they cannot intimidate me,” he said.

Mr Malik said he had also written a letter to the defence ministry asking it to take action against the army officials named in the Asghar Khan case for their involvement in doling out funds to politicians in the 1990s, but to no avail. He alleged that the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad had been formed in 1990 to prevent the PPP from coming to power and now an alliance of militants had been formed for the same purpose.

Despite all odds, the PPP would win the elections and form the government, Mr Malik expressed the hope.

PML-N’s Pervaiz Rashid said when Rehman Malik was in the FIA he had instituted fake cases against the Sharif brothers. “These are false as neither the Musharraf government nor that of the PPP could prove anything against the PML-N leadership,” he said.

APP adds: Rehman Malik claimed that the documents proved that Qazi Masood said the Sharif brothers had fooled him and allegedly opened bogus accounts on his passport and details of misuse of Ghani Musa Trust were also available in the documents. “It is also in the documents that Ishaq Dar said he had done it because the Sharif brothers asked him to do so,” he added.

the Supreme Court's hearings and the incumbent President Zardari have been overshadowed by the gamut of election campaigns and the media enthusiasm. Hardly anything is heard nowadays. Going by what the ex-Interior Minister says, one is hard put to believe why action cannot be taken. Unless, of course, an extra political program is unfurling in favor of the privileged. Salams to pakistan

It is very unfortunate that the Courts and ECP are silent and are not taking notice of these highly serious (almost criminal) allegations of Rehman Malik. If these allegations are true, both Sharif brothers should be disbarred from contesting these elections. If the allegations are proven wrong, then Rehman Malik should be put behind bars.

Goga Nalaik May 07, 2013 02:45pm

I'm convinced that Rehman Malik has solid proofs of corruption against Sharif brothers. I

Umair May 07, 2013 09:21pm

I hope someone reacts to this and illegal activities of Sharif brothers are brought to a trial at least but what about Rehman Malik himself. He sat on the evidence for 5 years and he has just revealed this a few days before the election. How so convenient!

syedsarosh May 07, 2013 02:16am
malik frightened by the tough days ahead for him, numerous charges await
fraz May 07, 2013 04:53am
Who says he was an Interior Minister. There are courts and there is a judicial system, go and give it to them to decide. Besides he was in the government for 5 years why was he sitting on it. He played this game before. I hope he had something and Sharif was out of picture so Imran Khan have the home run......... Joker

Pakistan Supreme Court should not punish poor if it cannot punish rich.
Jamshed Khan May 07, 2013 05:58am
One might have believed this, had it not come from a compulsive liar and a criminal such as R Malik. He must have know this when he was the interior minister. Why has be brought out these accusations just before the elections. This shows that all about this man, Malik, is for his own inetrest and has nothing to do with the country. He must take this evidence to a court of law in good time for elections, and we must give the Sharifs the benefit of the doubt (evidence coming from the Malik), and ninnocent until proven guilty and judged by a court of law.

Nawaz is the QUEEN of corruption and Zardari is the KING! as mentioned by some of our comments writers earlier. On top of all these they call themselves Muslim? I respect the muslims who are HONEST in their day to day dealings than those dishonest who pray 5 or 3 times Namaz and Fast in the name of God, they think Almighty will forgive them at the end of the day! No wonder Pakistan is in so much debt, because these crooks are laundering money and are not accountable!!! No one there to catch them! What is Iftakhar Chaudry doing? Busy taking revenge in the so called court??? Shame on you CROOKS.
Tahir May 07, 2013 06:10am
The elections are getting interesting day by day.
Michael Malcolm May 07, 2013 06:03am
Now the PPP and PML-N are no more scratching each others back and no muka muka between them. They have now stood face to face with their dirty gloves on. It will be seen who gets who knocked down.. Both are desperate to pull each other down as they see PTI rising morning sun getting higher and higher..
Muhammad Ahmed May 07, 2013 06:18am
Sharif Bros should go to court and prove your innocence. Few people trusted Rehman Malik but if he is showing evidence then it should be checked out. It is true Sharif Bros has taken money out of the country otherwise how they can open a factory there or buy flats in London. The real test is here for CJP whether they will allow it or now for investigation. It is a general Impression he will reject the petition as cjp does not like Sharif Bros to go to court

The pot calling the kettle black! Rehman Malik will have a few skeltons in his closet too. He was corrupt police officer himself. What about his time in office he was a media hog did not execute his duties well that all can be substantiated. The Sharif brothers have robbed the treasury twice, they should be prosecuted by the strong arm of the law. They should never ever be in public office again.
Pakistani May 07, 2013 06:59am
What else did Mr. Pervaiz Rashid was to say other than what he said. Like in the past people who will win seats in the coming elections will term it as the most 'pak saf' election in the history of our country whereas, those who will see their 'investment' going down will term it as the 'most rigged' elections ever. The fact is people belonging to a party will never admit that they were / are wrong or will ever do any wrong.
Ghalib Khan May 07, 2013 05:58am
Oh really Pakistani Politicians our corrupt now that is Breaking News.
Hasan Hasni May 07, 2013 05:48am
Pervaiz Rashid rejected the claim of his brother. Therefore, court have followed the principal set previously and acquitted of all allegation of Mr Malik due to insufficient evidence. I thought you were the interior minister for last five years.
Ahmad Nasser May 07, 2013 06:39am
Him and his party have been in the government for the past five years. Why did they not try Sharifs for these 'crimes' then? If they deliberately did not try them, it is Malik and his party that should be tried for not doing its job.
Husain Jan May 07, 2013 05:30am
But....but Malik saheb why you did not open this pandora box when Shariffs were in the process of submitting their nomination papers ? Why now at this rather late stage when elections are just days away ? And by the way what happened to your "promise" of last year about making public the names of BB murderers in "five days" ?? When would these five days end ? The allegations against Shariffs may well be true but as far as you are concerned no body is prepared to believe in your words and claims or even promises.
Muhammad Farooq May 07, 2013 05:17am
obvious question that will come to everyone's mind is: what was Mr Rehman Malik doing? Why PPP govt did not take any action in the last five years?
I. Ahmed May 07, 2013 05:15am
Problem with Rehman Malik is that if he is telling the truth, who will believe him? One wonder why he did not took these cases to court when PPP was in government?
Abbas May 07, 2013 02:48am
What about the corruption cases against PPP all the proofs but no punishment. All of thief in Pakistani politics
Hasan-SZ May 07, 2013 04:42am
Rahman Malik and the entire PPP leadership remained silent for more than 5 years , despite controlling NAB, why did not they come up with this before ?
ram May 07, 2013 03:15am

Fawad May 07, 2013 04:04am
any commnets, where he kept these documents for the last fiew years
S.S.A May 07, 2013 04:39am
Mr Malik, apparently you knew about this for many, many years, but never thought of bringing it out, as long as the Sharifs and you and your Master were milking poor Pakistanis! Now when you see that you'll have to face the music, you want to drag others with you! Do you have the courage to expose similar, if not more, criminal activities of Zardari and the Bhuttos? There may still be time to come out clean, ask for forgiveness for your misdeeds, and Pakistanis have a big heart to forgive!
TKhan May 07, 2013 03:35am
OK Sherlock Holmes; can you do the same investigation about yours & your Boss's finances???
pakiboy May 07, 2013 03:31am

M.Yaseen May 07, 2013 03:46am
Why there was not any action in last 5 years.
shankar May 07, 2013 04:20am
If Mr. Malik thinks SC will do anything against the Sharif brothers, he is dreaming!
farid May 07, 2013 03:53am
One evil is trying to scare another evil. What a joke?
Sabih Mukhtar May 07, 2013 03:54am

salum May 07, 2013 08:01am
have you seen any progress in their loans returns, tax returns, mehran gate, SROs.... your innocent expectations are too high.
Saad Saeed May 07, 2013 07:53am
What PML (N) and MQM have in common is that they malign the character of individual they fear so much that no one believes in him. its incredible how much rehman malik has been abused everywhere during last 5 years. He worked in FIA during Benazir's tenure so he should have a lot of proofs and evidences. its a shame that he remained silent in order to prolong PPP government. like IK said once that in assembly, opposition alleges government of corruption and government comes up with counter allegations and the drama ends after some time. WE MUST STOP THIS NOW. VOTE PTI
Aftab Kenneth Wilson May 07, 2013 07:30am
I hope SC takes action on these allegations. Rehman Malik has now come out with documentary proof. We want to see reopening of these cases on fast track as was done with the leadership of PPP.
