LAHORE, May 4: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Maryam Nawaz on Saturday appeared before the district returning officer and received a show-cause notice issued to her on alleged violation of election code of conduct.
DRO Nazir Ahmad Gajana exempted Maryam from personal appearance on next hearings and directed her to submit a written reply.
Talking to media persons, Maryam Nawaz said her party played a key role in the preparation of election code of conduct so she could not even think of violating it.
She said the Nawaz League had always shown regard for the judiciary.
About the alleged violation of the ban on rallies by her, she said the PML-N was a national party and wherever its leaders go people gather in large numbers and their opponents dub such gatherings as planned rallies.
Earlier, Mian Marghoob Ahmad also appeared before the district returning officer and received the show-cause notice.
Many political leaders were issued notices for holding election rallies without permission of the City District Government of Lahore as required under the election code of conduct.
