LAHORE: A Lahore High Court full bench on Wednesday issued a notice to the Election Commission on a writ petition challenging dismissal of appeals by a tribunal against acceptance of PML-N president Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers from NA-120, Lahore.

Pir Ali Imran filed the petition through Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey and accused Nawaz Sharif of concealing his assets in his nomination papers. He further alleged Mr Sharif was involved in laundering of billions of US dollars.

The petitioner said appeals were filed against the returning officer’s decision, but the election tribunal decided all the appeals in a wholesale and predetermined manner.

He requested the court to set aside the tribunal order and restrain Mr Sharif from contesting election.

The bench headed by Justice Ijazul Ahsan sought a reply from the ECP within 10 days.

Hamza: A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court to restrain PML-N former MNA Hamza Shahbaz from contesting the general election. Petitioner Sohail Malik says Shahbaz is not an honest and righteous person, as he concealed his marriage with Ayesha Ahad Malik. Malik also accused Shahbaz of concealing his assets from the election commission.

The petitioner said objections were raised before the returning officer and an appeal was also filed to the election tribunal, but both were dismissed.

He pleaded that the respondent did not fulfill the criteria laid down in the Constitution to become a member of the parliament. He prayed to the court to reject nomination papers of the respondent from the NA-119, Lahore.
