RAWALPINDI, April 14: Taji Khokhar, the brother of former deputy speaker of the National Assembly, who is wanted by the police in connection with the murder of a woman, is in Dubai, it has been learnt.

Sources close to the investigation revealed on Sunday that Taji Khokhar had been declared as a proclaimed offender in the murder of Sabira Bibi of Dhoke Gangal.

He had been placed on the Exit Control List in the first week of April instead of being restricted from traveling soon after the murder had taken place.

The source said five of the murder suspects had been arrested from different parts of Rawalpindi after the police launched raids last Saturday.

However, efforts by the police were underway to bring the main accused back from Dubai.

Police have already sought data from the Federal Investigation Agency’s immigration wing to find out when Taji Khokhar traveled abroad.

He is wanted in the murder of Ms Sabira, wife of Raja Yaqoob, who had been gunned down at the site of her disputed land on August 17. Raja Yaqoob had accused 13 people as murder suspects in the FIR registered with the Airport Police. Of these, seven had been arrested, and the recent arrest of five more has brought the total to twelve.

A special team, led by Deputy Inspector General of Police Investigation Omer Akhtar Lalika, has been formed to investigate the murder case after the Supreme Court took a suo moto notice of the case.  —Staff Reporter
