THIS is apropos Zahid Hussain’s article “Imran Khan’s dream” (April 9). Yes, his dream is the dream of many, including our youth. The PTI is a leading political party and has earned its reputation, respect and dignity by displaying courage, heroics and patience, mostly by Imran Khan himself.

But it could never have been one-sided as portrayed. Mr Khan today proudly stands having millions to support him not just because of the goodwill he contributed to Pakistan in the form of the 1993 World Cup, the first cancer hospital of Pakistan and another recently inaugurated to be constructed in Peshawar, a university, social service or as the chancellor of a British university.

He stands here because the people have faith in what he intends to do. Just like they did back when Bhutto stood for a better Pakistan, we cannot say it was just Bhutto’s dream, can we?

Imran Khan has representatives largely elected to party positions by the public, even Bhutto had many newcomers from among the public which paved the way to his party winning the elections. Since the PTI’s manifesto and policies have been announced, it is now known what ideology does Mr Khan has for its party and Pakistan.

As the writer sees the PTI being largely influenced by people belonging to extremist Islamic groups, I would like to clear the stance of the party mentioned by Imran Khan and the manifesto presented that their first priority is of gaining control, through dialogue and peace, over the worsening security situation in the country caused by groups and movements instead of doing the same thing repeatedly and having no positive results.

Mr Khan might have dreamt of his party coming to power through this election, let that be a driving force for his spirits to be held up high during the election campaigns with the traditional power elite to fear about.

What matters to the dream of a better Pakistan with a high sense of security -- productive economic activities, much less corruption (that includes accountability of the armed forces too) and overall providing the citizens of their rights -- is that who among all rises as the batman to save Pakistan out of this dark night where many can’t sleep well to dream.

Manifestos of political parties have been presented and we all know who has delivered being in power.

Therefore, Imran Khan does deserve a chance because of the fact of delivering much more without even being the captain. There are many proud to be Pakistanis but there are a few who Pakistan is proud of.
