LAHORE, March 9: The police have failed to recover the body of a teacher of Government Islamia College for Women, Cooper Road, allegedly murdered by her driver while she was on the way to attend a marriage ceremony in Sheikhupura late last month.

Farah Riaz’s family was unable to locate her whereabouts immediately and smelled foul after a couple of days. An FIR was registered with the Ghaziabad police on March 4. It is learnt, the police had arrested her driver and his accomplice.

Farah was a lecturer of Urdu and had joined the college in 2007. The college teachers and students on Saturday staged a protest demonstration against her alleged murder and chanted slogans. They demanded the killers be awarded exemplary punishment.

When contacted, Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) Lahore President Majid Wazir said Farah Riaz was going to attend a marriage ceremony in Sheikhupura around 12 days ago, and was wearing expensive jewellery.

Wazir said reportedly the family’s driver continued to mislead them in Lahore. He said the driver had killed the teacher and thrown her body in a canal in Sheikhupura. He added the police had not recovered the body yet.

He said the PPLA Lahore division condemned the murder and had organised a condolence meeting on March 5. He said a resolution had also been passed on the occasion that the police should apprehend the killer(s) and give them exemplary punishment. He said the teacher’s body should also be recovered at the earliest.
