LAHORE, Feb 26: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday remanded Efroze Chemical’s Managing Director Nadir Feroze Khan in one-day police custody for investigation into the PIC spurious medicines scam.
The magistrate, however, sent company’s general manager Shakil Khan to jail on judicial remand.
The Shadman police investigating officer produced the accused before the magisterial court and sought their 10-day physical remand. The officer stated that the custody of the accused was required to complete investigation.
The counsel for the accused argued that physical remand should not be granted to the police as no recovery was involved in the case. He said the police had already interrogated the accused, therefore, they should be sent on judicial remand.
Magistrate Ali Arsalan Shah, however, granted one-day custody of Nadir Khan to the police with directions to produce him again on Wednesday (today).
Shadman police had registered a case against Efroze Chemical’s top management after a government’s inquiry declared ingredients of a tablet “Isotab” manufactured by the Karachi-based pharmaceutical company spurious. Hundreds of cardiac patients across the province had lost their lives after using the medicine supplied to them by the Punjab Institute of Cardiology.
