LAHORE, Feb 11: A bank manager was killed while his colleague suffered injuries after unidentified assailants opened fire on their car near Barkat Market on Monday.
Witnesses told police that the shooting also led to an accident as the victims’ car hit another car and a rickshaw. Motorists and pedestrians also got panicked.
Garden Town police inquiries showed that Waqar Husain Shah, 40, of Township left his workplace (Soneri Bank) by a car along with his assistant manager Tahir Sattar of Johar Town at night. As they travelled a few yards, two motorcyclists intercepted their car and opened fire. The firing left both injured. The vehicle got out of control and hit a car ahead and a rickshaw. Rescue 1122 shifted the victims to Jinnah Hospital where Waqar was pronounced dead while Tahir was said to be critical.
Police said the motive for the shooting and elements behind it were not immediately known. They didn’t rule out terrorism.
ROBBERIES: Robbers struck the city five times on Monday and plundered cash and valuables.
Two robbers approached Rescue 1122 Lahore official Jam Sajjad Husain on Wahdat Road in Gulshan-i-Iqbal police limits and deprived him of Rs55,000, a cell phone and a motorcycle helmet. Mr Husain was heading to the Emergency Services Academy around 5:30am at the time of the incident.
Two robbers stopped Shahbaz in Kot Barkat in Shahdara police precincts and snatched Rs10,000.
MURDER: A middle-age man was clubbed to death allegedly by his younger brother in Ahata Maul Chand in Ichhra on Monday.
Ichhra police said accused Saleem alias Cheema attacked his brother Moosa, a father of one, with repeated strikes of a club. The injured was shifted to a hospital where he died.
Quoting family, police said Moosa was an addict and used to demand money from the family which led to quarrels between two brothers. Police took the suspect into custody.
