KARACHI, Feb 10: A police post was set on fire along with a motorcycle and windows of several vehicles, including a police van, were smashed by protesters who took to the streets after incidents of firing in North Karachi on Sunday evening.

The police said that the trouble started when the funeral procession of Syed Anjum Ali Zaidi and Syed Asif Ali Zaidi was moving from the Five-Star traffic intersection in North Nazimabad.

The police said that unidentified men who were allegedly part of the procession carried out the firing near Baba Mor, where two people were wounded.

Similarly, guns were also fired near a mosque located near the Wadi-us-Salam graveyard, which further fuelled the tension in the area, said North Karachi SP Syed Salman Hussain.

Following the firing incidents, tension spread in the locality and miscreants set fire to a police post called “Baba Mor police chowk”.

They also set fire to a motorcycle, the SP added.

Passing vehicles were pelted with stones and damaged the senior officer said.

Later police reinforcements were called in to address the situation.
