I AM disappointed at the National Judicial Policy Making Committee’s (NJPMC) appeal to retired judges to give up lower posts in order to maintain the dignity of the judiciary.

For any educated person to regard any post that provides a legitimate service and enables him to earn an honest living as ‘lower’ than any other shows a sense of inferiority.

Dignity and respect do not come from titles, or positions, except for the insecure. These only come from performing one’s responsibility honestly and to the best of one’s ability.

May I respectfully suggest all NJPMC members to serve a mandatory period with, say, the Edhi Trust, to learn about this.

Well said. The judiciary in Pakistan played a great role in restoring democracy. But is has failed to demonstrate sound judgement in too many things after that - whether it is in trying to break the law of supply and demand by establishing price levels through judicial order, or in treating terrorists as scofflaws and letting them off the hook rather than treating them for the murderers who seek to overthrow the rule of law through force.

Dignity of labor has never been acknowledged. It is our habit our tradition since the partition to respect the titles... the legacy left behind by the Brits
