ISLAMABAD: The police on Saturday submitted its preliminary report on the death of Kamran Faisal — a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officer who was investigating the rental power projects case — in the Supreme Court, DawnNews reported.

A record of calls made to and from Faisal's mobile phone and a post mortem report were also attached to the police report.

The preliminary report contains an application by an official of the bureau to register a First Information Report (FIR) on the investigator's death along with statements of NAB officials and employees of the hostel where Faisal had been staying.

The report adds that the police was still awaiting the forensic report.

In a related development, an investigation team of the police had reached Faisal's residence in Chak 129/15L, Mian Channu.

The team met with Abdul Hameed Chaudhry, Faisal's father, who excused himself from recording a statement on account of grief.

Chaudhry said he would only decide over a statement once he had seen an autopsy report of Faisal's death.

Kamran Faisal, who was investigating the Rs22 billion RPP scam, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his official residence in Federal Lodges, Islamabad, on Jan 18. His death came three days after the Supreme Court ordered the arrest of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and 15 others in connection with the scam.

The Supreme Court has taken up the case of the mysterious death and has said that the apex court was investigating the case as it wanted to ascertain the truth over the demise of the man who was investigating the high-profile scam involving the prime minister.
