LAHORE, Jan 20: Three people, including two brothers, were shot at and killed and another was critically injured by their rivals in Arayanwala Tharha village of Hadyara on Sunday.
Hadyara police said that members of the Dr Rafaqat group quarreled with the members of Mian Akbar group at Chowk Chakkianwala three days ago and stripped naked one of the members of the opposite group.
On the day of the incident, the Mian Akbar group did the same with a member of the Dr Rafaqat group at the same place which led to a quarrel between the two.
The members of Rafaqat group later opened fire on Akbar group people and injured four people.
The victims were shifted to hospital where Farhan Akbar, 25, his brother Suleman Akbar, 23, and their uncle Ashraf Sharif, 40, succumbed to their wounds while the condition of Afyan, Ashraf’s son, was stated to be critical.
Police shifted the bodies to morgue for autopsies, collected necessary evidence from the crime scene and recorded statements of witnesses.
Cantonment SP Operations Maroof Safdar Wahla told Dawn that police detained two members of Dr Rafaqat group on the day of first clash, but elders launched reconciliation efforts and requested police to delay the legal action.
He said police were conducting raids to arrest the remaining suspects and that a case would be registered on the application of the victim side.
The SP said both groups were relatives and used to indulge in fights apparently to establish their writ in the village.
Meanwhile, Akbar group members blocked one side of the Jail Road at 8pm by placing the bodies in front of the Services Hospital and demanded the arrest of the killers. The blockade was on till 10.30pm.
