THE discovery of Reko Diq copper and gold project was recently discussed in a TV programme. Viewers were told that the person who discovered the huge copper and gold deposits is at present engaged on contract as a section officer in a ministry.

Surely, he deserves to be decorated with a national award worthy of his talent, dedication and real hard work in those difficult working conditions. He is, perhaps, one of those Pakistanis who does not carry any political affiliation or sifarish.

In order to encourage others, the discoverer of Reko Diq must be decorated with the highest civilian award.

Discovery is great, unfortunately all the copper and gold has been laying under ground for ages and it is not worth a dime unless mined professionally. Who is going to mine it in a commercially viable manner?? Government of Baluchistan??? Government of Pakistan??? I don't think so....Just a concern

It's a pity that civilian awars are given to those who hardly deserve them. Apart from award, this officer must be given a huge cash prize too for his efforts. He is an asset for this nation.

I'm sure the discoverer is worth rewarding however Pakistanis seem to forget the discovery was made by a foreign firm which undertook great risk and spent millions looking for the resource. if it was up to the local pakistanis, no one would have found reko diq. There are probably other reko diqs in pakistan lying undiscovered, but Pakistanis tend to look at the short term, and do not plan ahead. We must ensure that such mineral resources are professionally exploited and the rewards gained must be realized by the locals to a great degree, however this can only happen by establishing good relations with the worlds biggest mining companies. Taking all of reko diq, giving the foreign discoverers nothing is a sure fire way to ensure all the undiscovered reko diqs will never be found in our lifetime. Meanwhile the average man will suffer for the short shortsightedness of the decision makers.

Maybe some of the younger techno savy countrymen should start a country wide compaign to get this honest public servant rewarded for his committment and love of Pakistan .... over facebook, twitter and sms. Can we get a volunteer ? Lets start this experiment and lets see if we get ourselves heard and counted for.
