LAHORE, Jan 4: The Pakistan Medical Association’s Punjab chapter has asked the government to take action against the doctors who manhandled the Gujranwala DHQ Hospital medical superintendent and other senior colleagues.

Earlier, the office-bearers of the PMA in Lahore had taken a similar stance and the general cadre doctors held emergent meetings.

“The PMA Punjab condemns the shameful torture of the medical superintendent and appeals to the government to take action against the wrongdoers according to the law,” PMA Punjab President Prof Dr Ashraf Nizami said in a statement issued on Friday.

The announcement came after the provincial council meeting of the PMA Punjab in Gujranwala discussed the issue at length. The meeting also passed a resolution condemning the strike and requested the doctors to uphold the dignity of the profession and perform their duty to help the ailing.

A committee of senior PMA members and civil society representatives was constituted to probe the facts and make recommendations for strong action against the culpable doctors.
