TAXILA, Dec 24: In order to revive the famous stone crafts of Taxila, the Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) has established its office near local museum. The PSIC camp office is part of the Rs43 million project, “Design development and value addition in stone crafts at Taxila”, which has been launched for revival of the dying crafts, especially black stone carving through promotion of modern designs.

Ahmed Farooq, the project director, told newsmen here that the office had been established for prompt and better interaction and coordination with the artisans of Taxila.

He added that the camp office would act as a centre of activities to meet the goals laid down in the approved PC-1 of the scheme.

He said the step had been taken to facilitate the artisans in design development and marketing of their products.

He said the office would help create an enabling environment for the private sector through marketing the products which can in turn spur economic activities and employment generation in the region. The official said the products created by the local artisans would be displayed at all the PSIC outlets.
