LAHORE: Sardar Latif Khosa on Saturday tendered his resignation from the position of Governor Punjab which has been accepted, DawnNews reported.

Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood will be the new provincial governor and an announcement would be made in this regard shortly, DawnNews quoted sources as saying.

Mahmood would be taking his oath as the new Punjab governor on Friday.

Earlier this week, President Asif Ali Zardari had offered the post of Punjab governor to Mahmood, formerly the provincial president of the Pakistan Muslim League-F, and the offer had been accepted.

“President Zardari today offered me Punjab governorship which I have accepted,” Mahmood told Dawn at the time.

A source told Dawn President Zardari wanted a man like Mahmood in Punjab because of his ‘good relations’ with PML-N leaders.

Sardar Latif Khosa had been appointed Punjab governor on Jan 13, 2011.
