ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday issued orders to the Acting Chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Authority (Pemra) Dr Abdul Jabbar to stop working as the acting chairman, DawnNews reported.
During the hearing of a petition requesting the formation of a media commission, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja said that a new chairman of Pemra had not been appointed for a year and half.
He added that though, the acting chairman had been appointed to monitor the authority while a new chairman was being sought, Dr Abdul Jabbar had issued orders upon orders as an acting chairman.
Justice Khawaja further said that Dr Abdul Jabbar could not continue to work as an acting chairman and it was vital to have a permanent chairman to run Pemra.
Subsequently, the hearing was adjourned indefinitely.
