LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced an increase in the revenue generated from the just-ended Faysal Bank National Twenty20 Cup staged here.
The revenue earned by the PCB from the T20 Cup is 60 per cent more than it generated in the previous year, calculations revealed during a meeting chaired by PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf on Tuesday .
Though the PCB announced that its income is 60 per cent more than what it earned from the same event the previous year, it didn’t announce the exact figure of income.
“A briefing by the PCB management was given to PCB chairman at the PCB Headquarters on Tuesday with regard to the Faysal Bank Twenty2012 tournament that concluded on Dec 9.
“In a thorough review several organisational aspects were discussed in detail with a view to identify areas to improve for future events,” said an official statement issued by the PCB.
It is pertinent to mention that the T20 event is the only tournament of the domestic season for which the PCB makes efforts to woo sponsors with the rest of domestic events like Quaid-i-Azam Trophy and President’s Trophy generating no revenue.
Though domestic events are telecast in major cricket-playing nations, there is hardly any practice of broadcasting domestic cricket events in Pakistan except for the National Twenty20 Cup.—Sports Reporter
