KARACHI: Former national selector of India, Mohinder Amarnath, said that the decision to replace MS Dhoni as the national cricket team's captain was not supported by BCCI President N Srinivasan which is why it was not carried out despite eight consecutive defeats for India.

"It was a unanimous decision, all five selectors supported it. The Board President (Srinivasan) did not approve the unanimous decision to replace Mahendra Singh Dhoni," Amarnath told a television channel, Press Trust of India reported.

"Why do you need a selection committee there if one person needs to be at the helm of affairs. We should not be there. Who knows the constitution of BCCI? Is the current selection committee aware of it? I was not aware of the constitution of BCCI" he said.

Amarnath had previously alleged that there were certain internal reasons which stopped the selection committee from replacing Dhoni even though five selectors wanted to sack him, adding that the whole team except the captain was chosen by the selection committee.

"We are working on trust there and we are doing our job honestly. It was a unanimous decision of the selection committee to replace Dhoni with somebody after the disastrous series in Australia," he said.

Amarnath, a veteran of 69 Tests and 74 ODIs, was in line to become chairman of selectors, according to reports and was removed after a fall-out regarding Dhoni's captaincy.

"We selected the team for the triangular series, selected 17 players but we didn't select the captain. The captain was selected by somebody else," Amarnath said.

"We were trying to look ahead, we wanted a young captain to come in especially in triangular one day series so that we can go ahead and do something better in near future....If we don't look ahead, we won't have a good team in near future."

As a Pakistani I love Captain of India: Dhoni

I think that MS Dhoni is better suited for limited overs version of the game rather than test cricket. He can captain in ODIs and T20s , and allow a different captain for test cricket.

Not only that he also made India number 1 team in Test ranking, however, one can not take things for granted. Thats when complacency creeps in. No one should be indispensable as the team is greater than indivisuals. Dhoni and others have been handsomely awarded but he needs to be consistent. If not, others must be given a chance. Mohinder Amarnath is loud mouth but he is no non-sense man.

Yaar have you seen the indians getting battered at home and abroad? 4-0 against England, 4-0 against Aus, now on the verge of losing at home to England. As a Pakistani I'm not complaining, I just find it funny how Indians still think people like tendulkar can play when they are so far past there sell by date. If he was Australian he would have been dumped 7-8 years ago, but as an indian he can play as long as he likes. That is why Aus were the best for so long.

Amarnath.s statements suggest BCCI is rife with corruption by way of nepotism, disband BCCI and set up a new association which has the confidence of the nation.
