MULTAN, Dec 5: Governor Latif Khosa says Raza Rabbani has disfigured the Constitution through 18th amendment.

Addressing party workers at Circuit House here on Wednesday, the governor said the 18th constitutional amendment had brought about structural changes in the governor’s authority. “Although we are appreciating the work of Raza Rabbani, in reality he has disfigured the Constitution.”

He said the victory of PML-N candidates in by-polls was not a parameter for forthcoming general elections as the state machinery was used to win the election.

He said the PML-N was sabotaging the environment of harmony.

He said the Supreme Court should also take notice of the firing by PML-N activists in violation of election code of conduct as it had taken in Waheeda Shah case.

He said the SC should have awarded punishment in the Asghar Khan case as it was disqualifying parliamentarians. “Neither the army nor the Supreme Court is state but only the people are state.”

Khosa said the government was interested in getting the consent of those parties that were not in parliament like Jamat-i-Islami and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf for the formation of an interim setup.

Earlier, he presided over a meeting of the senate body of Bahauddin Zakariya University.

Talking to journalists after the meeting, he said autonomous status of educational institutions, including universities, would be ensured and no compromise would be made to the effect.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Khwaja Alqama said the BZU was ranked third among all the universities of the country.

He said educational standard of the university would be elevated with the help of the teaching faculty.

The meeting approved two new departments of sports sciences and environmental sciences while a committee was constituted to separate the faculty of languages and Islamic studies.
