ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to move forward with criminal proceedings against dual national lawmakers who have announced their resignation, DawnNews reported.
Sources within the election commission said that orders will be sent to the relevant district and sessions judges, to proceed with criminal cases against dual national lawmakers.
If the accusations are proven, the lawmakers could face a sentence of up to three years in jail and five years disqualification from standing for public office.
ECP sources also said that dual national lawmakers that resigned will also have their salaries and benefits revoked.
