KARACHI, Nov 15: Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmad Khuhro has said that despite the assent of the governor to the Sindh People’s Local Government Act 2012, if the lawmakers did not approve the law, they can make amendment in it by following the relevant procedure.

Talking to media persons outside the assembly building on Thursday after the adjournment of the session to Nov 30, Mr Khuhro said if the 1973 Constitution could be amended, any other law could be.

But, he said, despite one-and-a-half months had passed since the adoption of the SPLG bill, the opposition had submitted no amendments to it.

In reply to a question, the speaker said the opposition had the right to lodge its protest against the law, but at the same time it should have the patience to listen to the treasury benches’ viewpoints.

He said it appeared that the opposition was more interested in getting political mileage than improving the law.—Staff Reporter
