Three killed in Karak incidents

KARAK, Nov 14: Three people were killed and three others seriously injured in different incidents here on Wednesday.

Sabirabad police found a bullet-riddled body in the hills of Tarkikhel after being informed by local people. The victim was identified as Balqiaz, resident of Kalabagh, Mianwali. The body was dispatched to Mianwali after autopsy.

In the second incident, a young man, Bismillah Jan, was electrocuted in Pashano Ghunda area of Karak tehsil while fixing a fault in a water pump. He was shifted to district headquarters hospital Karak but was referred to Peshawar in critical condition where he died.

A young girl, Mehwish, was found dead in a water tank in Hadi Khel mohalla of Karak city.

Meanwhile, two motorcycles collided head-on, injuring three riders seriously in Alikhel area. The injured identified as Asad Khan, Zafar Zaheer and Irshad, were taken to district headquarters hospital Karak in precarious condition. —Correspondent

Equipment donated to hospital

ABBOTTABAD, Nov 14: The Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD), an international NGO, donated surgical and other equipments worth over Rs10 million to Ayub Medical Teaching Hospital here on Wednesday.

In this connection, a ceremony was held at the hospital in which the head of In-Kind Gifts Programme of HHRD Riasat Saqib handed over the equipments to Dr Ziaur Rehman, the CEO of the hospital.

The equipments include supplies for anesthesia, urology, surgical, hospital beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, assistive aids and other necessary equipment.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Saqib stressed upon the NGOs working in the country to focus on the health sector and take appropriate measures for provision of better health services to patients to bring down the deaths caused by different diseases and lack of health services.

Mr Saqib said his organisation had also donated medical supplies and equipments worth Rs1 billion to 20 charity hospitals in the country. —Correspondent

Three killed in Mansehra

MANSEHRA, Nov 14: Three people, including a woman and child, were killed and another four injured in different incidents here on Wednesday.

Khursheed Khan and his brothers allegedly axed to death his wife Hameeda Bibi and fled the scene in Nawaz Abad area.

The body was handed over to relatives after autopsy at King Abdullah Teaching Hospital. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained.

Mohammad Arshad, father of the victim, told police his son-in-law used to beat his daughter without any reason and now killed her brutally.

In another incident, Mohammad Bilal, 5, was killed and four other members of his family were injured when a Balakot-bound jeep fell into ravine in Shogran area.

The injured were rushed to civil hospital in Balakot from where they were referred to Ayub Medical Complex.

In another incident, Amanullah, student of grade 2, was killed after being hit by a speeding bike in Chakia area. —Correspondent

Compensation cheques

GHALANAI, Nov 14: An amount of Rs28.3 million was distributed among the heirs of levies personnel who were killed in the ongoing insurgency in Mohmand Agency here on Wednesday.

In this connection, a function was held at the Ghallanai Jirga Hall where additional political agent, Mohmand, Abdul Hameed and APA Ghallanai Jamshed Khan distributed the compensation cheques among the heirs of levies force.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Hameed said the security forces and the tribesmen had rendered unmatched sacrifices to eliminate militants and maintain peace in the area. —Correspondent

School demolition

LANDI KOTAL, Nov 14: The owner and principal of a private school has appealed to the governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and corps commander Peshawar to compensate him for the losses he incurred due to demolition of his school during the military operation in Akkakhel area of Bara.

In a statement, Muhammad Jameel said the building of the Afridi Model School comprised sixteen classrooms. He said he was compelled to close down the school due to imposition of curfew in Akkakhel and instead deputed a watchman to look after the school.

He said security forces demolished the school days before Eidul Azha without giving any prior notice to him. He said office furniture and other related equipments worth thousands of rupees were also damaged.

Meanwhile, security forces on Wednesday released at least 41 suspects arrested during search operation in Bara. —Correspondent

PPP workers reject new head

PESHAWAR, Nov 14: The PPP, Nowshera chapter workers have developed serious differences over the nomination of Engr Tariq Khattak as district president with one group demanding his replacement.

A delegation of the workers led by senior vice-president of PPP, Nowshera chapter, Malik Ghulam Hazrat, met the provincial general secretary Mohammad Humayun Khan at People’s Secretariat here on Wednesday and apprised him of their grievances.

The activists informed the party general secretary that majority of the workers were against the nomination of Tariq Khattak as the decision had been taken without taking them into confidence.

Mr Malik also referred to a meeting of the annoyed workers held in Nowshera wherein the participants adopted a resolution unanimously rejecting the decision. —Bureau Report

Old enmity claims life

LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 14: A young man was killed over an old enmity on the busiest Bannu-D.I. Khan road near Naurang town in the jurisdiction of Shaheed Asmatullah Khan police station on Wednesday.

Jamroze Khan, father of the deceased, told police in his preliminary report he along with his brother, Shamroze Khan, and son, Ihsanullah, was waiting for a passenger vehicle near Ameer Jan brick kiln on Bannu-D.I. Khan road to go to judicial complex to attend court.

Suddenly, Noor Ali, armed with a double-barrel shotgun and Iqbal armed with a 30-bore pistol appeared from canal side and opened fire on Ihsanullah killing him instantly,” he said.

He said the killers escaped after committing the crime. Police registered a case and began investigation into the murder.

Meanwhile, police arrested 80 proclaimed offenders during surprise raids in Tajbikhel, Gandi Umar Chikar, Titterkhel and Chuharkhel, said an official. —Correspondent
