KARACHI, Nov 8: Former Pakistan captain and ace Test batsman Mohammad Yousuf is upset over not getting permission to feature in the ongoing President’s Trophy.

Yousuf, a veteran of 90 Tests, is willing to play but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) isn’t allowing him, citing reason that his name wasn’t included in the list provided to the PCB before the President’s Trophy started.

As per the rules a player not included in the said list cannot be inducted into any outfit.

“On one hand, the PCB tells me to prove my form and fitness in the domestic circuit, but on the other, they do not allow me to do so,”    Yousuf told a private television channel on Wednesday night.

“Since 2010, I have not been representing any domestic team. This time around, the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) offered me a slot which I readily accepted,” Yousuf maintained.

Also, former captain and PQA coach Rashid Latif has expressed disappointment over PCB’s decision.

Rashid stated that the PCB has rubbed the legendary batsman the wrong way, adding that PCB director-general Javed Miandad has not even replied to his formal request he made with regard to Yousuf.

“I sent a letter to Miandad on Oct 30 but am yet to get a reply,” Rashid maintained and added: “They should say yes or no, but their silence is extremely disappointing. PCB’s behaviour with a player like Yousuf is deplorable.”

Another former Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi, is showing keenness to return to domestic cricket to represent Habib Bank Ltd in a bid to regain his batting form.

Afridi has not played longer version of the game after quitting Test cricket in 2010.

Former international Abdul Raqueeb said on Thursday that they have submitted a request to the PCB to allow Afridi to take part in the President’s Trophy.

“We are waiting for permission from the PCB domestic in-charge Javed Miandad,” he added.—APP
