PARACHINAR/KOHAT, Oct 25: Security forces claimed on Thursday to have killed a suspected militant in Bagan area of lower Kurram.

Sources said that a suspected motorbike rider was signaled to stop at Bagan security checkpost. But the suspect, who was later identified as Mohammad Arif, tried to run away.

The security personnel, manning the post, opened fire on him and killed him on the spot. A pistol and a hand grenade were reportedly recovered from his possession. The police started investigation.

IDPs condemn violence

The displaced persons from Parachinar have condemned the fresh wave of violence in their area after signing of a peace accord between the rival tribes.

The members of Parachinar Reforms Committee said in a meeting here on Thursday that government and political administration failed to enforce fully the peace accord inked in Muree between the rival tribes.

The fresh wave of violence could prove detrimental for the repatriation of displaced persons, they said. The participants of the meeting alleged that Levies Force and guards were involved in the recent spate of bombings because only they were awake round the clock to safeguard Parachinar.

The spokesman for the committee, Attaullah Ghilji, said in a statement that if government was not capable rein in the sinister elements then why it asked displaced persons to return to their homes.

He said that displaced persons had to reconstruct their damaged houses after returning to their area. He feared it could soil the peace efforts and lead to a new war in the region.
