ISLAMABAD: The International Cricket Council has told the Pakistan Cricket Board that a team comprising of international players cannot call itself a World XI in Karachi this weekend.

ICC spokesman Samiul Hasan told The Associated Press in a text message that it “doesn't permit the names of World or World XI for exhibition matches” and a letter was sent to the PCB on Wednesday.

Former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya will lead players from West Indies, South Africa and Afghanistan against a Pakistan All Stars side in exhibition matches on Saturday and Sunday, the first major international cricket in the country in more than three years.

The PCB has allowed its centrally contracted players to play in the matches organized by a provincial sports minister.

Again this should have been thought through in advance/cleared with ICC.What I fear is the law and order situation in the city. How can central/provincial govts. grant permission.for these matches..Yes, desire to bring international cricket players , is a good desire, but we must improve overall security in the city, before iniating the move.

ICC double standard exposed. their intentions and desires in ensuring that Pakistan remain isolated is vindicated by their statement. In my opinion, they should support this cause, give dispensation and special concessions to Pakistan in this big moment rather than objecting on trivial matters.. It is also proved beyond any doubts PCB stance and views are not taken into account by ICC and furthermore, Pakistan and other Sub Continent teams should keep India happy all the time to be able to survive in this region.....

Did ICC invent and patent the term "World XI"? I'm sure it did not so it is just a non-sense and unnecessary stand from the ICC which should not surprise anyone since ICC is known for these kinds of things. ICC always try to exert their authority on soft targets but it fails miserably when the going gets tougher.

Change it to International Stars XI or something else. The name is not important, the game is.

that is pathetic!!! ICC should give its all out support to bring cricket back to Pakistan, as Pakistan is one of the most exciting cricketing nation. revival of cricket is good for the game itself. ICC reluctance to support Pakistan is another evidence of its biased stance towards Pakistan, the other most recent was un-fairly depriving Saeed Ajmal of much deserved ICC award.

ICC itself does not want to bring cricket back in pak thats why ICC raise objection about the name at the eleventh hour. Had they any such objection, they should have raised just when the announcement of such events was made few months earlier. These all are tactics to create hindrance

It looks like Pakistan can not do anything right in the eyes of ICC (or critically BCCI) Why not just make their reservations to PCB without any Media releases....surely it is not such a big matter unless they deliberately want to malign and embarass the Pakistanis in every which way they can...

The International cricketrs should not return to Pakistan hurridily. It is not safe yet. A country that can not save its top politicisan, governors, ministeres how can it save poor players. For Talibans and terrorists it would a great opportunity to show the world that they can hit any target at will. Please do not risk the lives of those wonderful men.

It is not the first time that a team of crickters belonging to different countries, is named world XI. Had ICC been sleeping until now?? Champions league of T20 is a tournament among clubs from different member countries and should have only been run by ICC, just as EUFA runs club European championship in Europe and equalent other bodies run it in Africa, Asia and South America. Why does ICC allow a single country to gain rights to run the champions league??

What is ICC's problem? They can call it whatever they want. It is not PCB's, ICC's or should I say BCCIs endorsed match. PCB gave NOCs to the contracted players for the match. Seems like a digestion problem to ICC that sort of international cricket is happening in Pakistan.

Name of the team does not matter much but names of stars and the country they represents is more important.

Why would ICC say such a thing? ICC is becoming a suspect in its enemosity towards Pakistan. If this was any ray of hope for Cricket in Pakistan, than ICC is playing its part in ruining it, ICC is playing politics against Pakistan through Cricket. Smell very ........... .

This is what the ICC is good at, making absurd statements and being territorial. First of all ICC or PCB has no bearing on these games, so the ICC should keep off. PCB has no role in organizing these games other than allowing the use of the stadium and letting the players participate. It's all Dr. Shah, his associates and the Sind Govt. So, ICC please focus on something productive for a change rather than making these ludicrous demands, have you heard of the baseball World Series?

Wait a minute guys! You can't copyright the word " World". Come on ICC, stop behaving like a kid. If you are unable to help Pakistan to bring Int'l Cricket to Pakistan, at least don't put obstacles in their way........ Shame on you, so called ICC. Huh!!!!!!
