ISLAMABAD, Oct 12: The Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) will help Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) maintain transparency in its procurement process, it was announced on Friday.

According to a Memorandum of Understanding, the TIP will provide assistance to PIA on the gratis basis to bring to the knowledge of PIA’s managing director anomalies in different departments along with recommendations to address them.

PIA Managing Director Muhammad Junaid Yunus and TIP Adviser Syed Adil Gilani signed the agreement at the PIA headquarters.

TIP’s assistance to PIA will include ensuring compliance of tender procedure with Public Procurement Rules 2004, availability of tender documents to all qualified interested parties, formation of transparent tender evaluation criteria, and redressal of complaints of aggrieved parties.

The agreement authorises TIP to identify any anomaly during the procurement process and bring the same to the notice of PIA chief, who will ensure that TIP’s observations are addressed promptly.

The MoU signed on Friday refreshes the one reached between the PIA and TIP in June 2005 and a subsequent understanding signed in February 2010 when the two organisations showed their commitment to work together and enhance transparency in the procurement process of PIA.
