KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Thursday gave 24 hours ultimatum to all top muftis and ulema (clerics) of the country to openly denounce the cowardly attack on young Pakistani children’s rights activist Malala Yousafzai or else he will ‘expose’ them, DawnNews reported.

In a statement, issued by the party, Hussain vowed to expose all clerics, who will fail to condemn the attack by banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), in his scheduled speech at the party’s workers convention on Sunday.

The MQM chief had declared the attack on Malala as an attack on all humanity and said that perpetrators of the vile act should be swiftly brought to justice.

Malala along with two other schoolmates sustained bullet injuries when armed assailants opened fire on their school van in Mingora city, Swat on Tuesday.

The TTP had taken responsibility for attacking the national peace award winner on the same day.

The Taliban, who have killed thousands of people across Pakistan in the last five years and destroyed hundreds of girls’ schools, have issued a statement saying that any female who opposes them should be killed.

Years of moderate Pakistanis keeping quiet and silently supporting the extremists has resulted in this anarchy. At times I feel bad for average Pakistanis, but then its you who have brought upon yourself.

Taliban is not TTP, please have some editorial oversight on things.

Altaf Hussian has taken a great step by openly condeming the attack on Malala. Moreover, by giving Ulema and moulvis the ultimatum to condem it or get exposed. Out of all the politicians he has shown true courage to speak up while rest of the politicians are like statue and failing to openly speak up. If Altaf takes action against them then he should be declared national hero.

Whats the meaning of ultimatum , who authorize him to give ultimatum !!!

It is good that Altaf has asked out the ulemas to clearly tell the nation on whose side they are. They will bring their true faces in public. Geo Altaf!

Though I have serious reservations on MQM and its policies, this has come as a breath of fresh air in this otherwise badly polluted and stinking society. At least, Mr. Altaf Hussain and his party are open and vociferous in naming our enemy # 1; i.e. TALIBANS. Shame on our mullahs
Oct 11, 2012 03:12pm
Altaf Hussain has my vote. I respect Altaf Hussain for his brave stand .... I hope his followers will help in launching a movement against totalitarianism and barbarism .....
Oct 11, 2012 08:23pm
nawaz sharif and imran khan are pro taliban, Altaf is the only hope of peaceful liberal vote. well done Altaf.
Oct 12, 2012 03:37am
Here is the litmus test of Mr.Altaf Hussain's sincerity : Relinquish his British citizenship and return to Pakistan, in doing so he will gain the trust from all over Pakistan not just of Karachi.

Well weighted political statement but its a good statement. Many people in our society still supports Taliban silently.
Oct 11, 2012 03:15pm
though i am not a great fan of Altaf hussain but even i have to say Well done for taking a stated position on this issue. the mullahs need to wake up and be counted

Sorry, he can't. He has dual citizenship of Pakistan and UK! Understand!
Oct 11, 2012 04:27pm
I think you should investigate what really happened on May 12th. Why Pakistanis are so ignorant especially those who don't live in Karachi but pass comments based on media representation. Muslims brought down twin towers, do you agree?

Altaf Hussian is a hypocrite. This is all politics.
Oct 11, 2012 04:21pm
It is interesting that all religious parties have not condemns the attack on Malala. This proves that these kind of parties have soft heart for Talibans. I strongly believe that Pakistan can rise if these Talibans and mullas are removed from the country. Sooner or later, Pakistan army has no choice but take severe actions to save Pakistan from these people.

I do not support MQM but I think he is the only leader with guts and he has taken a step in the right direction. I think all ullemas should condemn this act or they should be stripped of their religious degree and thrown in jail if they refuse to do so.
Rectified Guy
Oct 11, 2012 03:56pm
Well done Mr. Altaf!!
Oct 11, 2012 03:54pm
Everybody must condemn such an act but at the same time Pakistanis should also reject and condemn MQM and PPP for bringing further miseries and disgrace to Pakistanis.

It makes me sick that Pakistanis are even now are sticking to their Taliban supporting mindset. What will it take on part of Taliban/Terrorists to make Pakistanis come out of this kind of Taliban supporting mind set and stop saying "well actually if, but , if USA stops drone attacks, conspiracy of Jews/Hindus, they were not Taliban as they were not circumsized etc
Oct 11, 2012 02:31pm
Thank you
Oct 11, 2012 02:29pm
Wow! Now let us see how these so called muftis and aalims slip and slide out of this challenge !!
Oct 12, 2012 03:21am
its time for prayer for malala and all others kids who are targetted , not a challange game time
Oct 11, 2012 02:27pm
What could possibly be the reason I wonder.
Oct 11, 2012 02:27pm

I wish he can give ultimatum to the thugs killing innocent people in Karachi.
Oct 11, 2012 02:15pm

Oct 11, 2012 06:47pm
you are absolutely right
Oct 11, 2012 02:09pm
Altaf got no rights to ask question from Ulema it's got nothing to do with them.
Oct 11, 2012 02:08pm
Who gives him the right to give ultimatum to our Ulema? Maybe there is a good reason they are not condemning.
Oct 11, 2012 02:01pm
I dont support Altaf Hussain most of the times but this Time I say salute to Altaf Bahi for his courage and asking these religious leaders to stand against the talibans and say that they are against what they have done and stand for..
Gazoo Martian
Oct 11, 2012 01:59pm
Mr Hussein!!! Why should they heed to your challenge? What would you expose about the Ulema? Of course the killers of Malala (and of all killings) should be brought to trial, do you support the trial of the killers of 12th May?? This is just like kettle calling the pots black
Oct 11, 2012 05:04pm
he is used to giving ultimatums. He is "hartaal" champion of Pakistan.
Oct 12, 2012 03:26pm
Why are the Muftis and Moulavis silent on the heinous crimes committed by these murderous deviants? Havent they distorted and demonized our religon?
Oct 11, 2012 04:44pm
at least say yes to good things if you dont like its okay but say yes to Good deeds
Oct 11, 2012 08:43pm
all i can say is you are coward ....
Oct 11, 2012 02:42pm
It makes me sick that Pakistanis still dont have the ability to distinguish b/w TTP and The Taliban(The Afghan Taliban). No one is supporting TTP except the enemies of Pakistan mainly from Outside Pakistan.
Oct 11, 2012 09:57pm
Mr. Gazoo ....within 3hrs .....50 ulemas has given fatwa against these attacks.....and by the way.....keep your negative mindset out of these national issues...and support those who stand against child killers.

when will he expose the target killers of karachi?
Oct 12, 2012 03:05pm
WOW, biggest issue for a Pakistani nation is the MALALA! All drone attaches are stopped? All man, women and children killed in drone attaches are not humans? Only MALALA is a human? Target killing in Karachi is finished? Pakistan is sinking in IMF loans, day by day? Government is robing tax payer

Oct 12, 2012 02:24am
Instead of giving ultimatum he should copy and issue Mustafa Kamal orders regarding molvees.
Oct 11, 2012 02:37pm
Altaf please come back to Pakistan and take charge from Zardari and send him where you are! Pakistan needs you badly. Thanks.
Watta Sutta
