RAWALPINDI: The Special Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi directed the authorities on Saturday to investigate the sources of income of Sehba Musharraf, wife of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, DawnNews reported.

The special ATC issued the directive during the hearing of a petition against the freezing of the former president’s bank accounts and other assets.

During the hearing, Sehba Musharraf’s counsel, Advocate Ilyas Siddiqui, in his arguments said that Pervez Musharraf had “gifted” the Chak Shehzad farm house to Sehba Musharraf two years ago.

Responding to which, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali inquired as to why Pervez Musharraf was still registered as the farm house’s owner in the Capital Development Authority records if he had “gifted” it to his wife.

Furthermore, the FIA prosecutor added that the former military ruler had been declared an absconder and possessed a total of 16 bank accounts, out of which seven were joint accounts.

After hearing the counsels’ arguments, the court issued a directive calling to investigate the sources of income of Sehba Musharraf and adjourned the hearing until Oct 20.

Sehba had filed the petition in Sept 2011 seeking a stay on the court’s order to confiscate the properties and freeze the accounts of her husband in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case.

She had said the orders against her husband declaring him an absconder and attachment of his properties be withdrawn or recalled and the attached property be released to the petitioner.
