KHAIRPUR, Oct 2: Lawyers fraternity on Tuesday staged demonstrations, took out rallies and boycotted court proceedings in response to a call given by the Sindh Bar Council for protest against the local government law approved by the Sindh Assembly on Monday.

In Khairpur, lawyers took out a procession from the District Bar Association office and after marching on various roads via Punj Gulla Chowk returned to the starting point.

Wearing black armbands and shouting slogans against the law, they raised slogans against the Pakistan People’s Party and its allies in the Sindh Assembly.

They described the law as ‘anti-Sindh and ‘anti-Sindhis’ and demanded its immediate repeal.

Later, they held a meeting of the DBA general body which was presided over by its president, Manzoor Hussain Ansari.

Talking to reporters, Mr Ansari, former DBA president Shafqat Hussain Mahesar and senior lawyer Ahmed Ali Shahani said the meeting unanimously decided that the entry to the bar of lawyer MPAs belonging to the PPP would be banned.

They said lawyers would also observe a social boycott of the lawyers who were PPP MPAs or ministers because they had supported the passage of the LG law in the assembly.

They appreciated PML-F MPA Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, Marvi Rashdi and other MPAs who had staged protests during the assembly session on Monday.

They said people had also joined the procession of lawyers taken out on Tuesday in protest against the law.

NAWABSHAH: Members of the Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah) District Bar Association boycotted court proceedings and took out a rally against the local government law.

The rally stared from court building and ended at the local press club.The protesters were carrying placards and chanting slogans against the law and the provincial government.

Talking to journalists at the press club, advocates Shahbaz Dahiri, Ayaz Ali Gopang, Mushtaq Arain, Khadim Hussain Soomro and others said that the legal fraternity would continue to resist implementation of the law being imposed on the people of Sindh.

DADU: Lawyers in Dadu boycotted court proceedings on Tuesday in protest against the new LG law.

Led by senior lawyer Mohammad Ramzan Khushik and Fazal Jamali, they also held a protest demonstration in front of the district bar room.

Addressing the protesters, Mr Khushik said lawyers would continue their protest until the law was repealed.
