KARACHI: Punjab’s Imran Shehzad who ruled the circuit last year, hammered an elegant break of 116, the highest of the fourth ranking snooker cup so far, before bowing out 2-4 to Abu Saim in the all-Punjab clash at National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex on Monday.

The former Pakistan No 1 cracked the break in the second frame but could not maintain the pace, suffering third straight defeat in Group C. Saim won the match 65-42, 17-122, 67-14, 80-17, 15-86, 77-53).

Two more players, Sindh’s Sohail Shehzad (102) and Islamabad’s Shahram Changezi (100), also earned the honours of piling up century breaks on the second day after Sindh’s Umair Alam had registered a break of 114 on Sunday.

Meanwhile, sixth seed Mohammad Sajjad and seventh seed Sohail Shahzad also suffered defeats on the second day. The former lost 1-4 to former national champion Shahid Aftab while the latter went down fighting 3-4 to national junior No 2 Mohammad Majid Ali on the adjacent table.

The top two cueists Mohammad Asif and Asjad Iqbal have maintained their unbeaten run in the three games so far.
