ISLAMABAD: Adviser to Petroleum Ministry Asim Hussain said that Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) would be categorically phased out due to shortage of gas supply in the country, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives, the petroleum ministry adviser said that phasing out of the CNG in the country was linked to the shortage of natural gas.

The compressed gas is also being used by well-off people who own luxury cars. Adding that, the CNG could be given to public transport but not to the owners of luxury vehicles.

He said that decision to increase the gas load-shedding during the winters was dependent on the supply of the gas.

He said that household consumers will face less load-shedding as compared to the previous year.

The information adviser said that three billion cubic feet of gas would be bought from the American companies. Adding that, negotiations over the import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) were being done by US based companies.

He said that LNG was important means of fuel to control the gas shortage in the country.

Hussain said that the summary of one billion cubic feet of gas import would be sent to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) by Tuesday.
