KARACHI: A province-wide strike was ongoing in Sindh against the Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance(SPLGO) , 2012, DawnNews reported.

The strike was called by the Sindh Bachayo Committee (Save Sindh Committee) and the Jaey Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) over the imposition of the local government ordinance and the lack of probe into the death of JSQM leader Bashir Qureshi.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had decided to support the strike call.

Businesses, petrol stations and markets remained shut and transport was at a standstill in Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan and adjoining sub-urban areas.

However, businesses and transport were unaffected by the strike call in the provincial capital Karachi.

The bill on the recently promulgated SPLGO is being presented in the Sindh  assembly for discussion and passage into law.
