LAHORE, Sept 28: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid succeeded to hold a considerable political show in Lahore on Friday at Gowalmandi (a constituency of the Sharifs) where he appealed Lahorites to vote his party in the next general elections for getting rid of the “traditional and corrupt politicians.”

“I will field my party’s candidates in association with other parties in general elections from all seats of this constituency — NA-126 and PP-123, 124 and 125,” Rashid challenged the PML-N while speaking at the rally.

It was the second political show of the AML after it organized a rally in Lahore at Saddar roundabout (Cantonment area). Scores of people from Pattoki, Kasur, Khanewal and some other districts also attended the rally in a constituency considered to be a seat of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif.

Rashid said he would also hold rallies in Nawabshah and Larkana to mobilise people against the corrupt government led by Asif Ali Zardari.

He held the PML-N responsible for prolonging the PPP government’s tenure. “Had the PML-N lawmakers resigned from the National Assembly, the PPP government would have collapsed. So it was the PML-N that allowed Zardari to continue enjoying presidency for a long time,” he deplored. He also criticised the Metro Bus System (MBS) Project in Lahore and termed it a useless one for the people. “Had you people spent such a huge MBS’s budget of Rs77 billion on other public welfare projects, you would have won the hearts of many attending the AML rally in your own constituency,” he deplored.

He requested the apex court to resolve the issue of writing the letter to Swiss courts as soon as possible rather than taking a long time for the purpose.

Dawn talked to some of the rally participants. Muhammad Rafique, a resident of Changa Manga (Pattoki tehsil), said he and several others had been brought here by Sardar Talib Nakai. He said previously Mr Nakai had been contesting elections on PML-N ticket. But during the last general elections the PML-N ignored the Nakai family.

The elections in Pakistan is a Nura Kushti. One corrupt will replace another. It is a law of nature that corrupt people will always elect a corrupt government. Wake up Pakistan. If you don't go and elect your next honest and sincere leaders, you will continue on getting the one from the same corrupt lot.

Khan: You have stated a law of nature in your comment. Then you ask Pakistanis to wake up and elect honest and sincere leaders. How can corrupt people elect honest/sincere leaders? Isn't it contradictory?

Sheikh Rashid is a big liability politically. He seems to have learned no lessons from his repeated defeat in Rawalpindi elections. He is a mature politician but still looking for an ideological direction. Sometimes he is seen with Diffa-e-Pakistan council, other times he is smoking a fat cigar and talking about movie industry and models. Is Imran Khan so desperate for allies that he has decided to give AML a chance?

Wow. Another political party: AML. Despite so many political parties, more than half of its existence the country was ruled by military generals. It is interesting that if some wealthy and powerful family or person is ignored by leaders of a party, they form a new political party.

politicians use different tactic to get to the heart of the people - once they succeed, they only like to enjoy the protocal - the poor people are left in the lurch.

Why PPP, PML-N, PML-Q and those who run the government for several years. What was the output of these so called politicians. They are just shouting to giving references of bureaucrats and defence personnel rules in the country. Why don't they compare their so called good governence with the referenced governments. Why don't they show and illigal properties against their own? Why don't they compare their correptions against military rullers. Who have the black money in the foreign banks, the policitians or the military rullers? Who have unbelievable part of land and properties inside and outside the country. My request is not to vote in suport of any politicians who have been in power erlier. We should reject them and bring anyone whom we can try their abilities and fairness otherwise we will never be able to develop our countries. Most of the previous and present rullers of Pakistan were and are robbers and looters. The previous regimes of military rullers could also have their luxery houses in the country likewise, Bhotto family house in Larkana, 70 Clifton in Karachi, Zardari's Belawal House in Karachi, Nawaz Family House in Raiwind, Lahore, UK, etc. etc., but neither Gen. Zia has it nor the Gen. Perwez!!!!

In my view Sheikh Rashid poses more dangers for Imran Khan than for Nawaz Sharif.

I am from Karachi. I like sheikh Rasheed views. I think he and PTI should be given a chance by all Pakistanis this time. What have we gained from voting the same people over the years. NOTHING. We have lost too much. Now we should try PTI AML etc. At least they will be better than PPP

He is not a jagirdar or an industrialist and so does not have a conflict of interest. He argues vehemently against corruption. He is also very pragmatic and straight forward. His down side is that he (1) is not married, (2) makes too many claims about Pakistan's political future (many of which do not come true) and (3) likes cigars. If I were in his district I would vote for him.

What the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry is doing for public? He is continued engage in the unfruitful political business. The general public brought him to the table for acquiring justice where millions of cases are pending in the courts. He should have to rearrange the panels of Judiciaries to provide immediate justice to the general people and minimize the pending cases filled by the general people. Why his son's cases are lasting long in the court? He never be able to justify the case of his son, so he should have to place this case into an independent Justices.

Mr Shaikh is an awami person ,No doubt about it, but He lacks good judgement/decision power/high intellectual standard.. He is still trying to bargain with N league and PTI and Lahore rally is a part of it. He had a history of jumping out of sinking ships ,Now He is swimming in the ocean and no ship is rescuing him. He will never understand that He would have been a more respected and popular if He would not have left 1...PML N 2 PML Q or have not changed his views on Red Mosque operation .
