LAHORE: In connection with Bhagat Singh’s 105th birthday, Azad Theatre, a recently developed theatre group, staged play ‘Chupan tun Phelan’ at Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall.

The play, written by Davinder Daman and directed by Malik Aslam, roped in a fairly good crowd from different strata of society. There were performing art enthusiasts, students from different art institutions, parallel theatre artistes and the public.

The play shows the activities of Singh’s last three days in the prison before he was sent to the gallows. The play is full of good music composed and sung by Sarfraz Ansari. There are eight choruses in the play with live orchestra.

“We have produced this play for the young generation, and our message is that every youth should have a cause like of Bhagat Singh,” Mr Aslam said. He says Azad Theatre is a new theatre and despite the shortage of resources, the cast tries to come up with such ideas which could bring about positive change in society.

The cast included Sarfraz Ansari, Usman Zia, Waseem Haider, Aliya Abbasi and Dr Mubashar. Most of the members of Azad Theatre have been working with Ajoka Theatre.

The play is a non-ticketed one and will be staged two days more. — Staff Reporter
