KARACHI: The operator of KFC restaurants in Pakistan has termed the media report regarding shutting of all KFC franchises in the wake of anti-American protests baseless.

Global media has quoted Yum! Brand’s spokesman Christopher Fuller as saying: “Our KFC restaurants in Pakistan are closing as a precautionary measure. They will continually monitor the situation to decide when to re-open.”

“There is absolutely no reality in the news as Yum Brands are basically brand owners and cannot give such statements,” CEO Cupola Pakistan Rafiq Rangoonwala told Dawn on Friday.

He said “we are operating franchise business with a complete Pakistani investment”.

He said three KFC restaurants (PIDC, Shahra-e-Faisal and North Nazimabad) were ransacked on Friday while six to seven in other parts of the country were partially damaged.

“We will open the restaurants on Saturday depending on law an order situation except those which were damaged,” he said. The KFC has 64 restaurants in 21 cities of the country.—ASK
