Three killed in Swabi incidents

SWABI, Sept 10: Three persons were killed in separate incidents here on Monday.

In the first incident, a man was killed when his minor son was alleged to have accidentally triggered a loaded pistol. The police said the victim, Gul Mohammad, was in his house along with his wife when his minor son got hold of a loaded gun and triggered it. He was rushed to the Yar Hussain hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

In Dobian village, a man, Majid Khan, was killed by Shafiullah and his son Sohail Khan. The attackers escaped from the area.

In another incident, Hafizullah alias Kachkul was killed over an old enmity by his rivals near his house. An FIR was registered by his brother against Aman Khan and Gohar Khan of Dobian village. —Correspondent

Sanitary inspectors suspended

PESHAWAR, Sept 10: DCO Peshawar Mohammad Javed Marwat on Monday suspended six sanitary inspectors of Town-I for not cleaning the city.

During his visit to different union councils, the DCO found 189 sanitation staff absent from their duties and directed them to appear before him today (Tuesday), according to a press release.

The masses complained that sanitation staff didn’t bother to remove the garbage from the streets which fell into drain and blocked it due to which rainwater flowed onto roads and streets. They said garbage could be seen in the streets.

Town-I chief officer Inayatullah told the DCO out of the 10 multi-loaders, six had been damaged due to which the administration faced hurdles in removing garbage.

The DCO directed the executive engineer of Town-I to immediately repair all the out of order multi-loaders. —Bureau Report

New ward for skin patients

PESHAWAR, Sept 10: The third skin ward of the province has been established at the Hayatabad Medical Complex which will not only provide health facilities to the patients but will also facilitate academic activities for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of dermatology.

Inaugurating the ward, the chief executive of the HMC Dr Mohammad Zubair Khan said the establishment of the ward will improve doctors’ training specialising in skin diseases. He said a full-fledged ward had got the services of 10 qualified dermatologists, including one professor, one associate professor, one assistant professor, one senior registrar, one junior registrar and five medical officers.

The new unit has also appointed two female consultant dermatologists to facilitate female patients, he said. The province faced utter shortage of dermatologists and the new ward would also play instrumental role in producing more doctors to provide specialised treatment for skin ailments at the district level. —Bureau Report

Feasibility of water channel

CHITRAL, Sept 10: The residents of Mulkhow tehsil of upper Chitral have called for hiring the services of a consultant for carrying out feasibility study of Terich Aan to Atahk water channel.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, elders of the area Mir Ayub Khan, Mohammad Nadir Khan, Qari Azizullah, Rahmatullah, Mohammad Younus and others said Rs70 million had been allocated in the current annual development plan by the government which included feasibility study of the project.

They regretted that no step had so far been taken by the irrigation department.

A further delay in launching the feasibility study means the wastage of one year as the new working season will commence from June next, they said.

They said the project was vital as it covered population of more than 40,000 of three union councils, which faced acute shortage of irrigation water. —Correspondent

Woman shot dead

LAKKI MARWAT, Sept 10: A woman was shot dead over a blood feud here, said police on Monday.

The police said the woman, Taskeen Bibi, was gunned down near her house in Shamoni Khattak village in the jurisdiction of Dadiwala police station. They said the killers escaped from the scene.

The police said Ghulam Sadiq, husband of the deceased, nominated Jan Alam and Qasam Jan in the FIR. Police registered case and started efforts to arrest the killers.

Meanwhile, two bike riders sustained wounds when their bike hit a car near Gambila bridge on Manjiwala link road. The injured were identified as Ihsanullah and Riaz.

They were rushed to Government City Hospital where staff was not present in the emergency department. Later, a paramedic was brought from his house to provide treatment to the injured. —Correspondent

BA/BSc exams start today

MANSEHRA, Sept 10: The Bachelor of Arts and Science examinations of Hazara University would start today (Tuesday).

The controller of examination Mohammad Sadiq, speaking to reporters here on Monday, said that 16 examination centres had been set up for the purpose across Hazara division.

Mr Sadiq said examinations of M.Com and B.Ed would also start on September 18 in which 15,000 candidates would appear. —Correspondent

‘Doing politics on transformers’

KOHAT, Sept 10: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam has accused the provincial government of doing politics of transformers and of nepotism in jobs provision.

It said the party had moved Supreme Court against rampant corruption in the province.

Addressing a meeting the district president of JUI-F Mauala Abdur Rasheem said the present government was providing illegal jobs in the tehsil municipal administration and giving transformers in bribe to win the next elections. He said soon the party would provide proof of corruption.

He claimed the vote bank of the party was intact. He said due to police operations the citizens were in a state of fear and sanctity of their homes was being violated. He demanded immediate halt to such unnecessary operations in the province. —Correspondent

Demo against traffic police

PESHAWAR, Sept 10: The drivers of auto-rickshaws on Monday held a protest demonstration near Peshawar Press Club against the increasing price of fuel and traffic police for extorting money. They demanded action against the ‘corrupt officials’.

The protesters holding banners and placards inscribed with their demands also shouted against the police. Talking to media persons the protesters said while the prices of petroleum products were increasing with each passing day police were forcing them to pay extortion money.

“During the past five years the rates of petroleum products have been frequently increasing which has made our lives miserable as we have no other source of income,” they said and added police had also increased the rate of extortion money. —Bureau Report
