KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said that the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement had reached consensus over the Sindh local government ordinance on Thursday night.

He said that Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan was expected to sign and promulgate the Ordinance later tonight, adding that the name of the ordinance will be Sindh People's Metropolitan Ordinance 2012.

According to sources, the ordinance is to be enforced in five major districts of Sindh namely Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana and Mirpurkhas, where roles of Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be enforced. The remaining districts will be expected to have District Counselors.

The consensus was after a long period of negotiations and deliberations that had continued to this day.
