Two shot dead in Kohat

KOHAT, Aug 27: Old enmities claimed two lives in Muhammadzai and Sheikhan areas on Monday.

The police said that one Maqsood, who had family feud, was allegedly killed by Omar Zaman and Shamsher in Muhammadzai village.

Similarly, Ayaz killed Khalil over a family dispute near his house in Sheikhan area.

The Cantonment and Saddar police have registered cases against the accused who fled from the scenes. Meanwhile, three people were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a van and a car on Indus Highway near Lachi on Monday.

The police said car (FDK-7988) was coming to Kohat from Karak. Driver of the car, Manzoor of Jatta Ismail, Karak, and Abdur Rehman and Mohammad Akbar, boarding the van and belonging to Tappi, Kohat, were injured and shifted to KDA hospital. Lachi police impounded the vehicles and registered case.—Correspondent

Tribe asked to cooperate

GHALANAI, Aug 27: Political administration has called upon the Hamza Khel tribe of the Haleemzai tehsil to hand over 45 wanted men to the political administration.

A jirga of the elders of Hamza Khel tribe held here with APA Ghalanai Rasool Khan Wazir assured him that all the wanted men will be handed over to the administration. On the occasion, nine wanted men were handed over to the administration.

An official of the political administration warned the tribesmen that those who failed to hand over the wanted men might be sent to jail. About 600 wanted men have so far surrendered to the administration through the jirgas in Mohmand tribal region in the years of 2009 and 2010.—Correspondent

Youth convention

PESHAWAR, Aug 27: In order to create awareness among the youth and mobilise them against the government’s failure to control rising unemployment, soaring prices of daily use items, deteriorating law and order situation, Shabab-i-Milli Peshawar has arranged a youth convention in Peshawar on September 7.

Pakistan youth feel disappointed and deprived as hundreds of thousands of them do not get jobs despite being highly educated and skilled, regretted Rizwan Saraf, secretary information of the party, while addressing a news conference on Monday.

He added the youth were anxious about their future as the country was facing serious problems like the law and order situation, economic instability, unabated loadshedding and rampant corruption. In these situations, he claimed the Shabab-i-Milli convention would prove a ray of hope for youth. “Youth can bring about positive change across the world as has happened in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya,” he maintained. —

Membership drive

LAKKI MARWAT, Aug 27: The PPP-S, Lakki Marwat, is set to launch membership campaign in the district from next month as part of its strategy to accelerate mass contact campaign and make preparations for the upcoming polls.PPP-S district president Aslam Wazir told this correspondent on Monday that membership drive would be launched with full enthusiasm to ensure achieving the target successfully. He said party activists would visit every nook and corner of the district to persuade maximum number of people to join PPP-S.

“The PPP-S will emerge as a major political force in the area politics after the successful membership campaign,” he hoped, saying ‘the membership drive will also enable us to play our cards in the local Khans dominant politics’.

He revealed that prominent figures would join the party in coming days to strengthen its position in local political scenario. —Correspondent

One killed, 15 hurt in accident

TIMERGARA, Aug 27: One person was killed and 15 others were injured when a vehicle they were boarding hit an oil tanker and a pick-up van at the Timergara bypass on Monday, residents and hospital sources told Dawn.

They said a van carrying 19 persons, including women and children, of a wedding party first hit an oil tanker and then a pickup near the press club. As a result Bacha Rahim of Rani area was killed while 15 others, including a child and eight women, were injured. The injured were taken to the district headquarters hospital where the condition of some women was critical. The incident occurred due to over-speeding, said an official of Timergara police station.Meanwhile, four people were bitten by stray dogs on Monday in Asbanr area, who were taken to THQ hospital Chakdara.—Correspondent

Civil disobedience threatened

KARAK, Aug 27: The Khattak Ittehad has threatened to start civil disobedience movement in the district to protest against non-provision of basic necessities.

This was stated by Maulana Mirzaqeem, district president of KI, while talking to Dawn here on Monday. He said membership drive would be initiated in each union council for the purpose.

He said volunteers would be organised under a commander at union council level to prepare a force of youth to start a movement for the resolution of the basic problems of health, gas, electricity and others.

While coming hard on the elected representatives of the district, the KI president claimed they had failed to resolve problems of masses. He added they had met local lawmakers but they showed no interest in resolution of people’s problems. He said hospitals lacked facilities and doctors and people suffered prolonged loadshedding.—Correspondent

Woman commits suicide

CHITRAL, Aug 27: A young woman committed suicide by jumping in a river at Morde village in Upper Chitral during wee hours on Monday.

Officials at concerned police station informed that the woman, 22, was married and identified as Hasina Bibi.

The exact reason for his suicide is not known, but police claimed she was had a domestic dispute following which she jumped into a nearby river.

Meanwhile, a man killed his son after exchange of hot words at Tirch village. The accused was identified as Sher Hakim.

He fired at his son, Dawood, which resulted in his death. Meanwhile, prolonged power outages continued in Chitral city as power supply from the national grid remained suspended from 2pm till the filing of this report at night.—Correspondent
