LAHORE, Aug 26: Two teenagers are feared drowned in the Ravi near New Ravi Bridge on Sunday.

Rescue 1122 said three youngsters, residents of Saeed Park, Shahdara, came to the river for swimming. They went into the deep and only one of them managed to reach the bank.

Their screams alerted some people who called in rescuers. Local divers began rescue efforts and were joined by divers of Rescue 1122, who were stationed at Old Ravi Bridge. They failed to find out Sadaqat Ali, 14, and Muhammad Ali, 13.

A Rescue 1122 official said six divers kept searching the bodies till 7pm but in vain and the rescue operation would be resumed on Monday morning. Grief-stricken families remained there.

FIRE: Valuables worth millions were reduced to ashes in three house fire incidents in the city on Sunday.

Rescue 1122 and City Fire Brigade battled the flames for hours.

A fire broke out in a double-storey five-marla house in Gulshan-i-Ravi’s G-Block, burning down valuables worth hundreds of thousands.

Another blaze erupted in a house in Q-Block, Phase II of DHA, reducing valuables worth hundreds of thousands to ashes.

Valuables worth over a million were reduced to ashes after a fire broke out in F-Block of Sui Gas Society in Defence.

NH&MP INSPECTION: DIG N-5 Central Zone Rai Altaf Hussain on Sunday inspected the performance of the Mobile Education Unit.

He directed the officers to ensure maximum visits to educational institutions and expressed his satisfaction over the performance of the MEU after seeing appreciation letters by national and multinational companies, educational, government and semi-government institutions etc.

The DIG further directed the officers to take active part in all campaigns. He also stressed the need for educating motorcyclist, cyclists, pedestrians and drivers of slow-moving vehicles.

The DIG paid a tribute to SPOs Qasim, Adnan Gul and Imtiaz Hussain who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
