Three drown in Charsadda

CHARSADDA, Aug 24: Three people, among them a four-year-old boy, drowned in different rivers here on Friday.

Eyewitnesses said the boy was going on a motorcycle along with his father when the bike plunged into river near Dildar Garhi Bridge. The locals rescued the man, Zaman Khan, while the boy Riaz drowned. The body was later fished out by local divers.

Another man drowned while taking a dip in the Munda River near Matta Shabqadar. The victim was identified as Farooq Jan. In another incident, a man Haroon drowned while swimming in the Swat River at Tangi Barazai.

Meanwhile, a young girl committed suicide over some domestic issue in the jurisdiction of Khan Mahi police station. The victim was identified as daughter of Mohabat Shah.—Correspondent

52 arrested in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Aug 24: Police arrested 52 alleged criminals, including 8 proclaimed offenders, and recovered arms and ammunitions from their possession during raids here on Friday.

A police spokesman said the proclaimed offenders included Ikramul Haq, Mohammad Ibrahim, Zubair, Kamran, Siddique ur Rehman and Taj Mohammad. They were arrested in the limits of Faqirabad police station. Two suspects Khuram Zahoor and Mohammad Saleem were arrested from the limits of Town and Yakatoot police stations.

Police also recovered 14 pistols and hundreds of cartridges. The spokesman said it was yet to be confirmed if there was any hardcore criminal or miscreant among those arrested. They would be produced in court.—Bureau Report

Demo against bank staff

BUNER, Aug 24: The teachers’ community of Mandan tehsil staged a demonstration here on Friday to protest against the staff of a commercial bank who allegedly delayed payment of salaries to them before Eid.

The demonstration was organised by the All Primary Schoolteachers Association at Nawagai. The teachers demanded that the staff of the bank at Nawagai deliberately withheld payment of salaries to them before the Eid festival. They set August 31 as the deadline for the transfer of the entire staff of the bank.

The protesters blocked the main road to Ambela and Nagrai for two hours and chanted slogans against the bank staff. APTA leaders criticised the bank staff for not paying salaries to the teachers before Eid.—Correspondent

Timescale formula rejected

KARAK, Aug 24: The paramedics association has rejected the recent promotions in the provincial health department and demanded the timescale formula like teachers for move over to the next grade.

This was demanded by the district general secretary of the association Imtiaz Arshi, Mohammad Yousaf, Rashidullah, Zila Sardar, Mohammad Iqbal and Lal Shahbaz in a joint press conference here on Friday.

They alleged gross irregularities in the seniority list prepared by the provincial health department, saying senior employees had been made juniors and vice versa. They also criticised the inclusion of the Fata health employees in the seniority list of the provincial health department. They criticised the interference of the provincial paramedics association in the formulation of the service structure.—Correspondent

Minor dispute claims life

SWABI, Aug 24: A dispute over the ownership of a house between two blood relatives led to the killing of a man here on Friday, said police.

The incident occurred at Ismalia village in the jurisdiction of Kalu Khan police station. Both the victim and the attacker claimed ownership of the house.

Khural Zada and Faqir Gul exchanged hot words and later clashed and opened fire over each other. As a result Khural Zada was injured seriously and was taken to nearby Kalu Khan civil hospital where he later succumbed to injuries.

However, before death he told police the cause of the incident was a tussle over the ownership of a house which he claimed owned by his family. He said Pervez Khan, son of Faqir Gul, opened fire over him, injuring him seriously. Police said they arrested Mr Pervez from Ismalia village.—Correspondent

Lawyers’ professional duties

PESHAWAR, Aug 24: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has asked the young lawyers to work hard and fulfill their duties with professional zeal and excellence.

This he said while speaking at a meeting with the newly elected cabinet of district bar association Abbottabad at Governor House on Friday. He said lawyers belonged to important section of society because they struggled hard to provide justice to the innocent and helpless people.

The governor said lawyers could play the best role for providing justice to the innocent citizens of the society but hard work, dedication and devotion was basic requirement for the purpose.—Bureau Report
