ISLAMABAD, Aug 19: Like most of the predictions made by the Met Office in the recent past, expectations of rains by Sunday evening did not prove true as only limited areas of the federal capital, including Zero point, received light rain.

Due to the El Nino effect arising in eastern Pacific Ocean the whole of subcontinent is facing drought-like situation as rains shift towards the east. Under this influence countries like China, Korea and the Philippines have received too much rains leading to floods.

However the Met Office has said: “Rains are expected in upper Punjab including Islamabad, Hazara division and Kashmir during Eid days.”

The predictions seems reasonable this time as the satellite imagery on the website of Pakistan Meteorological Department shows presence of heavy clouds over the central-north part of India, Indian-held Kashmir and eastern districts of Punjab.

As the Met Office has said seasonal low lies over Balochistan with its trough extending eastwards, monsoon currents are penetrating in upper and central parts of the country from the East.

Apart from light precipitation over the hilly areas and some showers in isolated places, the weather is likely to remain hot and humid across the country. However Murree will be pleasant in the coming days with maximum temperature around 24-26 degrees centigrade.

With partly cloudy conditions, mercury would be around 36-38 degrees centigrade in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Peshawar 38-40 degrees, Jhelum 36-38 degrees, Sargodha 36-38 degrees, Quetta 35-37 degrees C, and Karachi and Skardu will be partly cloudy with maximum temperature at 35 degrees centigrade.
