KARACHI: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Saturday announced that the Shawwal moon has not been sighted, so Eid-ul-Fitr will fall on Monday, August 20, DawnNews reported.
Speaking to media representatives at a press conference, the chairman of the committee, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman said that due to the lack of evidence regarding sighting of the new moon this evening, the nation will adopt their 30th fast tomorrow on Sunday, August 19 and the Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday across the country.
The committee met at Metrological Department office on University Road in Karachi to give a verdict regarding sighting of Shawwal moon.
Zonal Ruet-e- Hilal committees also held meetings in their respective head quarters and the announcement was made after consulting all the committees.
However, reports of the moon sightings were received from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including 15 testimonies from Mardan alone.
