ISLAMABAD: Rejecting rumours of dispute within the party on writing the contentious letter to Swiss authorities, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said that in case another prime minister is sacked, the decision on whether the move would be resisted or not will be taken at the next party meeting.

Briefing the media here on Wednesday after attending a meeting of the cabinet held under the chairmanship of PM Raja Parvez Ashraf, Kaira said that the next general elections would be held as per schedule.

He also said that the assets of all government employees would be declared and brought on record.

Kaira added that a special cabinet session would be held after Eid- ul-Fitr to deliberate on electricity crisis and measures to reduce line losses and improve power distribution system.

He said that extra efforts are needed to improve the distribution, generation system of electricity and reduce the line losses.

“Government knows very well that the people of the country are angry on scarcity of electricity. Extraneous efforts are being made to overcome power crisis in the country,” he said.

Kaira informed that in the first 12 days of August last year, the power generation was 14274 MW whereas it was 14306 MW in the comparable period this year.

He said at present the day time electricity production is 13250 MW which increases to 14300 MW in the evening.

He said Hydel production during day time is 5000 MW and 6100 MW in the evening due to extra releases of water from dams after its storage during the day.

The information minister said the cabinet has so far regularized the services of over 30,000 contract and daily wages employees working in various departments.

He said the meeting was informed that the process of regularization was still on and the committee constituted by the government in this regard has already held 16 meetings under the chairmanship of Religious Affairs Minister Syed Khursheed Shah.

Moreover, the Minister said that the services of contract and daily wages employees appointed in the past have been regularized irrespective of which government had hired them.

Kaira said that the cabinet had also reviewed the progress of Economic Affairs Division and Establishment division ministries. He said 96 per cent of decisions of the Economic Affairs Division have already been implemented.

The Minister said the cabinet has also approved the July 24 decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee.

The meeting was also briefed about power situation and the steps taken to mitigate the problem.
