KARACHI: Incidents of violence in Karachi claimed six live during the past twenty four hours, whereas police arrested seven alleged extortionists, DawnNews reported.

One person died of gunshot wounds in Karachi’s Korangi 100 quarters area.

A gun firing incident at a sweets shop claimed another life in Liaqatabad area of Karachi.

Police claimed arresting a suspect in the case.

Another person died of gunshot injuries by unknown persons in Sohrab Goth area of the city.

One person was killed and another injured in Dhobi Ghaat area of Usmanabad in Karachi.

The body of a young man was found stuffed in a gunny bag in Karachi’s Kharadar area near Kakri ground.

Firing by unknown persons injured another person in Pak colony.

In Mahmoodabad, two groups exchanged fire over a dispute involving setting up of stalls in an Eid Bazaar. Police said the dispute between the two groups of traders had started about a week ago.

“On Friday night, they had a brief clash in which firearms were used,” said an official at the Mehmoodabad police station. “Today (Saturday) it got worse as the renewed fighting left a fruit vendor, Qadeer, dead and three others, including two brothers, injured.”

The bothers were identified as Abdul Samad and Abdul Rauf. The dead and the injured were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where supporters of the two groups again clashed and used firearms. However, no casualty was reported.

Police and Rangers reached the hospital and arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in a firing incident.

According to a Rangers spokesman, weapons have also been recovered from the possession of the accused.

Quaidabad police conducted an operation and arrested two target killers/extortionists.

Police claimed recovering arms and grenades from the suspects’ possession.

The SIU conducting targeted operations in various parts of the city claimed to have arrested five suspected extortionists.

Police also claimed to have recovered four AK-47 rifles, one TT pistol, one 9mm handgun, and one hand grenade and extortion money from the accused.

The suspects were also involved in target killings, according to police sources.

The city police on Saturday released the names and photographs of 10 ‘most wanted extortionists’ associated with four different gangs, but officials clarified that they were not the only ones involved in the current wave of the crime affecting mainly traders.

“These 10 extortionists are associated with the Sultan Khan group, Bholu Qureshi group, Lyari gangsters and Sohail group,” Khurram Waris, SP of the special investigation unit (SIU) told a press conference.

The 10 suspects were named as: Ahmed Ali Magsi, Syed Kamran Jilani alias Kala, Malik Asif and Danish of Sultan Khan group, Rajuddin alias Bholu of Bholu Qurehsi group, Abdul Rahman alias Ashok, Farhan Qureshi, Muhammad Fakhar alias Buddy and Shiraz alias Comrade.
