LAHORE, Aug 3: The Punjab Police Department has alerted its senior police officials to beef up their own security shortly after alleged militants planted a cracker in the vehicle of an Elite Force DSP in Margazar Colony late on Thursday night.

It is second incident of its kind in the provincial capital within a month.

Militants planted a low-intensity bomb in the official vehicle of Elite Force DSP Khalid Jameel at around 1:30am. The vehicle was parked outside his Margazar Colony residence in the Hanjarwal area. The bomb went off suddenly and the vehicle was damaged partially.

Chief minister’s former security official Maj Muaz (retired) was injured when unidentified men threw a hand grenade at his car in Allama Iqbal Town a few weeks ago.

The investigation team probing the case has identified ‘terrorists’ belonging to a banned outfit behind the Margazar Colony incident who are targeting officials of law enforcement agencies to panic them.

Hanjarwal police have registered an FIR against the unidentified terrorists.
