QUETTA: Doctors in Quetta on Thursday once again boycotted the OPDs in protest against the abduction of Dr Ghulam Rasool, a prominent psychiatrist and senior professor of Bolan Medical College, who was kidnapped by unknown men on Wednesday from Brewery Road area of the provincial capital on gunpoint.

Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Balochistan chapter giving three hour ultimatum to the government threatened to close emergency and casualty wards of the Bolan Medical Complex and the Quetta Civil Hospital if the missing doctor was not recovered.

It may be mentioned here that doctors in Quetta have been on a strike for over a week over the abduction of Dr Din Mohamamd Bangulzai and resumed attending patients at OPDs in the hospitals two days ago when Bangulzai surfaced after spending 10 days in the captivity of kidnappers.

Reacting to the abduction of Dr Ghulam Rasool by unknown men, the PMA, led by its provincial president Dr Sultan Tareen, held a protest rally and staged a demonstration outside Quetta Press Club.

They announced the closure of OPDs and warned that “emergency units in hospitals across Quetta would be closed” if authorities failed to recover the abducted doctor within the given time.

Hundreds of patients affected by the strike were seen waiting outside the OPDs in scorching heat in the Civil and BMC hospitals.
