KOHAT/PESHAWAR: At least six children were injured seriously when an explosive device, they were playing with, exploded in Darra Adamkhel on Tuesday.

Officials said that children were playing with a device resembling a hand grenade in a hujra in Sheraki area of Darra Adamkhel when it exploded in their hands. All the injured children were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, for treatment.

It is important to mention here that in the gun manufacturing town of Darra Adamkhel presence of explosives, hand grenades and other arms in houses is common. The presence of arms in shops and houses often result in such incidents.

In Peshawar, an activist of Pakistan People’s Party-Sherpao sustained injuries when suspected militants attacked an office of the party in Hayatabad Township on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Hayatabad police, the attackers hurled a hand grenade at the PPP-S office, situated at phase-I of the posh locality. Amir Khan, an office-bearer of PPP-S, who used to sit and deal with problems being faced by the party workers in the locality, sustained wounds in the attack.

The injured PPP-S activist was rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex where his condition was stated to be stable. Police cordoned off the area and started search for suspected persons on different roads.

The employees of Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, present at his residence, said that the office was situated away from the residence of the party head and only one person was injured in the attack.

It was learnt that Amir Khan had recently joined the party and was very active in the area. “It is yet to be ascertained if he had any enmity but apparently it is an attack on the party,” an employee of Mr Sherpao said.

Police said that a case would be registered after contacting PPP-S leaders so that to get their opinion in that regard.
